Makerere lecturers to hold a general assembly

Students vacated the university yesterday and by the close of the day all halls of residence were locked up.

Makerere university lecturers are expected to convene in a general assembly meeting to weave a way forward on what is next for them.

Makerere university academic staff association (MUASA) general secretary Dr. Louis Kakinda told New Vision that MUASA executive held a meeting yesterday at the university and invited all lecturers for a general assembly later today.

"As MUASA executive, we met yesterday and decided to call a general meeting to deliberate on the way forward in consideration of the situation we are in," he added.

Meanwhile, the situation at Makerere is calm as the police take over to ensure peace and security.

In private hostels around Makerere, notices are pinned on the notice boards requiring students to leave by Thursday 5Pm.

One of the notice pinned in Muhika hostel reads; "Since the university closed, you are required to leave hostel premises by Thursday 5pm in order to save utilities like electricity and water. We cannot operate when Makerere is closed. Leave the keys with the custodians,"
