Amuria LC5 chairman orders locals to kill all stray dogs

"These dogs should all be killed before more lives are lost"

Amuria district chairperson, Robert Okitoi Erisat has directed locals to kill all loitering dogs suspected to be suffering from rabies.

This follows complaints from the local leaders that two children have so far been killed by rabid dogs in the sub counties of Kuju and Obalanga in the last two months.

Okitoi said these dogs should all be killed before more lives are lost.

He made the directive to the leaders at the district budget conference held at Kuju Sub County headquarters on Monday.

"As we try looking for vaccinations for dogs, let people kill those ones with signs of the disease," Okitoi said.

After he made the directive, other leaders voiced their concerns about animal rights if the dogs are killed.
