Hearings on the government White Paper on the constitutional review process.
TODAY IN HISTORY
November 1, 2004
The Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee started hearings on the government White Paper on the constitutional review process.
The lawyers who appeared before the committee opposed most recommendations, including the removal of presidential term limits, the dissolution of parliament by the president and increasing powers of the executive.
They supported a proposal by the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) to reduce the number of ministers and MPs.
