Makerere lecturer’s strike has today entered its sixth day after the university lecturers’ association (MUASA) executive quashed the university council resolutions on Friday.

Lecturers are expected to convene in a general assembly meeting on Monday afternoon to deliberate on the council resolutions and to chart a way forward.

In a telephone interview, MUASA chairperson, Muhammad Kiggundu said that tools remain down until the general assembly determines the next move.

“We are convening today afternoon to find a way forward but the council resolutions are just the usual resolutions, no new thing they brought up,” he said.

The vice-chancellor Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu told New Vision that lecturers should resume teaching because Friday’s resolutions were partly addressing their problem.

“We acknowledged sh28b outstanding arrears and we are committed to paying it any time but due to scarce resources we never set a timeframe,” he said.
