Makerere council convenes over lecturers' strike

Deus Muhwezi, MUASA spokesperson said that the situation has not changed and they will not teach until the university council find a solution.

 

Makerere University council together with finance planning, administration and investment committee (MUFPIC) is to hold a meeting on Friday to solve lecturers' demand for their arrears to be paid.

Ritah Namisango, the university spokesperson told NewVision that the matter of accumulated incentives is before the university council and in the meeting; strategies will be laid to find a solution in a phased approach.

"The respective staff associations will be represented including the student guild leadership and I am hopeful of good results," she said.

She also appealed to students to remain calm and read book as the matters are being handled.

Deus Muhwezi, MUASA spokesperson said that the situation has not changed and they will not teach until the university council find a solution.

"We instituted the strike management committee to oversee and supervise all lecturers to make sure we stick to our resolution," he said.

Meanwhile the situation at the university is calm but no lectures going on.
