Introduction:  

As a growing African economy, agricultural transformation remains a beacon of hope for Uganda, and it is key to achieving its rural poverty reduction, food security and economic growth objectives. A successful transition to agricultural growth in the country depends on effectively moving many farmers out of subsistence agriculture into commercial agriculture, and ensuring they do so in a sustainable manner. Over the past two decades, the government of Uganda has embarked on a diverse array of agricultural initiatives to promote smallholder agriculture commercialization in the country. Notably, the government of Uganda has been promoting apple development under the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture (PMA), a new initiative for increasing farm income, with high interest by the farmers. This article showcases a few examples of the early successes of the south-south knowledge sharing by China agricultural experts with their Uganda counterparts to empower smallholder farmers to improve their local apple production. CLICK HERE FOR MORE
