Uganda names strong squad for East African Challenge

Six Countries will take part namely Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

The East African Golf Challenge title defense is top on the agenda as the national golf team flies out to Addis Ababa on Monday.

A strong nine-man squad that includes the South African based pair of Ronald Otile and Daniel Baguma has been named following qualifiers that were held at Kitante last week.

Rodwel Gaita is the new face on the team that includes Joseph Cwinya-ai, Becca Mwanja and experienced players Ronald Rugumayo, Martin Ochaya and Captain Adolf Muhumuza. Herman Mutebi is a reserve on the Amos Kamya coached team.

The match play competition tees off on October 25 with an official practice round at the par-70 Addis Ababa Golf Club before the main event, October 26-29.

UGU president Johnson Omolo will lead the contingent that also has Oscar Semawere, Bernard Mbayo and JB Tumusiime as officials.

The Uganda team is sponsored by St. Augustine University and Daily Monitor who have provided 11 air tickets to the team.
