"Asiimwe has been accusing her husband of sleeping with other women."

Police in Kyenjonjo district are hunting a 45-year-old woman believed to have killed her husband and dumped his body in a pit latrine.

Magezi George, 48, had gone missing for nearly two weeks.

One resident of Kikondogo village in Kihura sub-county - where the couple lived - said they became suspicious since they knew the two for often engaging in domestic fights.

"[Jennifer] Asiimwe has been accusing her husband of sleeping with other women and the two have been quarreling almost every day and fighting late at night for long," said Everest Rumanyika.

So when Magezi was not seen for days, residents felt something was not right.

But when they asked Asiimwe about her husband's whereabouts, she "reluctantly" told them he had gone to seek medical treatment and had not returned since.

As suspicion and speculation grew, the villagers mounted a search for the missing man until, with the help of local police, they discovered his rotting body inside a pit latrine near his home.

What happened next made the locals to link Asiimwe with her husband's death.

"We suspect that the woman killed her husband and dumped the body in the latrine because when we retrieved the body from the latrine, she took off," said Fred Musiime, a local leader.

The suspect is still at large as police investigations and a search for her continue, said Tumushabe Lydia, the police spokesperson for Rwenzori region.
