Former President Apollo Milton Obote's body lay in state at parliament for a special session to pay tribute to a man who led Uganda to Independence.

Motorbikes and Police patrol vehicles led the way for the Uganda Funeral Services into the Parliament parking yard, with the family members following in three motor vehicles.

The Police mounted a guard of honour before they played the national anthem.The body was received at Parliament by then Speaker Edward Ssekandi, ministers and MPs at 4:30pm.

Hundreds flocked to Parliament to view the body.

Obote died of kidney failure in Johannesburg on October 10, 2005.
