Miria Matembe an activist, told the youth to determine what they want to be by building their vision while still young.

Over 200 Students who attended the Girls Arise Conference ahead of the Women week have been advised to work to achieve what they want to become in future.

The advice to the youth made by several speakers who included doctors, teenage youth, and members from the civil society organisation was aimed at empowering the youth in the economic, health and social fields.

Addressing the youth the executive director Uganda Women Network, Rita Achiro told the youth that the Girls Arise Conference, was meant to reach out to the young generation to struggle for equal opportunities.

Achiro explained that this is the second Girls Arise Conference, meant to bridge the gap between the men and women. The conference was celebrated under the theme: Growing our ranks: inspiring the next generation.

Dr. Jennifer Ssengoba, a sexual reproductive health specialist told youth to avoid groups which derail them away from their studies and advised them to always seek medical advice from medial workers rather than resolving the issues with fellow teenagers.

Miria Matembe an activist, told the youth to determine what they want to be by building their vision while still young.

Revealing her past to the youth, Matembe told the youth that at the age of nine she had decided what she wanted to be and that is what she ended up becoming.

Other speakers who gave testimonies to the youth were Victor Ochen the executive director of African Youth Initiative Network, an organisation which helps youths through peace building.

The conference preceded the National Women Week that starts on Monday 17 October.
