Buganda Kingdom’s Masaza Cup have landed a sh1.2bn, three year partnership deal with the Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel.

The Kingdom will for the next three years receive sh400m cash annually for the tournament that is used to boost talent among the youth and mobilizing people in development programs in Buganda.

Airtel Managing Director Anwar Soussa accompanied by the head of brand and communication Remmy Kisakye and other Airtel Staff, unveiled the package to the Buganda delegation led by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and sports minister Henry Ssekabembe at Bulange, Mengo Thursday.

“At Airtel Uganda, football is one of our passion points, right from the Airtel Rising Stars all the way to the Uganda Cranes. It is an honour to add the Masaza Cup, a Kingdom of Buganda legacy tournament that has raised some of the greatest talent in the country,” Soussa said.

“I commend the Kabaka and all the Kingdom officials for your ability to keep this tournament alive and your noble desire to unify the kingdom’s subjects. We shall make sure the kingdom has the resources to run this tournament; It is important to be in a relationship where we share values ,” Soussa added before he signed the deal with Majestic Brands’ CEO Ronald Kawadwa and Chairman Ronald Nsereko.

Katikkiro Peter Mayiga welcomed the sponsorship.

“A company that succeeds must believe in the people and a company that believes in people must believe in sports and a company that believes in sports in Uganda must believe in the Masaza Cup,” Mayiga noted.

“We are very proud of the partnership that is going to bridge the gap between the kingdom and the people, because it is going to promote social and economic development and cohesion in Buganda; because the tournament if for all people in the kingdom,” Mayiga said before the Majestic Brands officials exchanged the contracts of the deal and pleasantries with Soussa.

Buganda sports minister Henry Ssekabembe said the money is a consolidated package that will go towards football development in the kingdom.

FUFA president Moses Magogo was also not left out in the excitement and congratulated the kingdom for the milestone.

“We are proud of the role of the Kingdom in the history and development of football in Uganda.

Airtel once again proves to be the football brand,” Magogo stated.
