After missing out on glory in the 2016 FIBA Africa Zone V Clubs Championship in Dar es Salaam, the UCU Lady Canons found consolation back home, besting arch-rivals KCCA Leopards in the National Basketball League (NBL) on Wednesday night at the YMCA.

The tightly contested game ended 58-54 to hand UCU its second victory over KCCA in a space of 10 days, the first coming in Tanzania at the Zone V event.

Vilma Achieng once again proved KCCA's chief tormentor, scoring a game-high 23 points for the reigning champs, who led 12-9 in the first quarter and 30-28 at halftime.

Rita Imanishimwe added 11 points for Nick Natuhereza's side, who look set to finish the regular season in first place.

Flavia Oketcho and Joy Chemutai led the Leopards with 16 and 12 points respectively.

KCCA are still writhing from their failure to secure a top-two finish at Zone V that ruled them out of the African Championships in Mozambique.

Timothy Odeke's side are now under pressure to avoid another season without a trophy and will be looking to raise their game their ahead of the postseason.
