'Besigye will be free if he desists from defiance'

“It’s up to Besigye to work well with security agencies to remain safe."

KAMPALA - Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi has said Police shall not interrupt former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye if he desists from defiance activities.

"The Police will not sit and look at Besigye's defiance operations. The question is the way he handles himself," said Kaweesi of the opposition politician.

"It's up to Besigye to work well with security agencies to remain safe," he told reporters on the sidelines of a familiarization tour of Nateete police post by internal affairs minister Gen. Jeje Odongo.

Kaweesi's remarks come after Besigye's arrest on Sunday as he left his home in Kasangati, Wakiso district.

The Police say they suspected he was heading to a rally that opposition politicians had reportedly orgainsied in Katwe, Kampala. However, Besigye said he was going to church and held a Bible.
