The Ugandans will embark on a training program with coach Amos Kamya from October 10 until the team departs.

The Uganda Golf Union is considering flying in South African based national team players Ronald Otile and Daniel Baguma to reinforce the Ugandan team ahead of the East African Challenge in Ethiopia on October 25-30.

The Ugandans will embark on a training program with coach Amos Kamya from October 10 until the team departs. In between they will be involved in a mini qualifier from which the final team will selected.

Last year Uganda national amateur golf team collected 18.5 points to win back to back East African Golf Challenge titles for the second year running in Rwanda.

Just like in 2014 in Entebbe, the Ugandans edged Kenya by a point despite winning only five of their eight matches in the final singles round.

Perennial rivals Kenya remains the biggest threat to Uganda's title defense and are already re-organising and have of late also adopted a team qualifying format like Uganda's.

They recently participated in the world golf championship in Mexico where they finished 63rd out of 71 countries.

In June, Kenya beat the Ugandans in the inaugural Victoria Cup golf championship by a point at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi where Uganda fielded a completely young side that lived to their expectations.

Youngsters like Joel Basaline, Edrine Okong, Dennis Asaba and Grace Kasango who impressed in Nairobi get another opportunity to impress coach Amos Kamya ahead of the annual tournament.

Experienced players Adolf Muhumuza Ronald Rugumayo, Martin Ochaya and Becca Mwanja will also be involved in the qualifiers alongside Deco Mutebi, Andrew Byaruhanga, Hassan Kiyemba, Ismail Mahmoodu and Martin Ochaya among others.
