ENTEBBE - Uganda Professional Golfers Association captain Deo Akope and Jinja golfer Fred Wanzala shot an opening round level par 71 to take joint lead at the sh15m JBG Open at Entebbe Club on Thursday.
Wanzala and Akope, who finished third and eighth respectively last year at the same tournament, are just a stroke ahead of Phillip Kasozi, Denis Anguyo and Opio Onito who are joint third.
Going by the first round scores it promises to be a tight contest as seven other pros that include Grace Ocici, Saidi Mawa, Vincent Byamukama, Henry Lujja, Gideon Kagyenzi, Happy Robert and Gerald Kabuye are tied joint sixth ahead of the second round, Friday morning.

In the afternoon the golfers will change course and head to the Palm Valley Golf and Country Club, Kakungulu Estate, to compete in the first round of the sh20m Pepsi Independence Day tournament.
On Saturday, the top 12 golfers who would have made the cut in the second round of the JBG Open will be involved in the final round at Entebbe Club before returning to Palm Valley for the second round where another cut will be effected before the final round of the Pepsi tournament Sunday morning.
