Couple arrested for dumping their child in a pit

Relatives told police that Olomo dumped their five-year-old boy, Lazarus Ogwal, because he believed he had a strange ‘evil’ disease.

A couple in Apac district has been arrested for dumping their child in the anthill hole.

Santa Adero, 59, and her husband Tom Olomo, 39, all residents of Akwon village, Ongoceng parish in Aduku sub-county in Apac district are being held at Apac Central Police Station (CPS).

Relatives told police that Olomo dumped their five-year-old boy, Lazarus Ogwal, because they believed he had a strange ‘evil' disease.

Olomo told Police that his wife, the victim's step-mother had advised him to dump the child, saying he become a burden to family because of the affliction.

 "I thought she was right," Olomo said, "since the child has been sick for three months and had failed to respond to medication."

Olomo's relatives, however, told New Vision that the victim suffers from epilepsy.

ASP Kalifan Chemutai, the officer in charge at Apac CPS, told New Vision that the duo will be charged with child neglect and abuse.
