Former FDC presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye has expressed concern that politically motivated Police arrests and brutality could be instrumental in driving away potential investors.

This was during a news conference at his home at Kasangati in Wakiso district while narrating how his homecoming procession organized by his supporters had been intercepted.

Besigye who returned from a tour to the USA and Europe was whisked away by Police to his home after touching down aboard a Kenya Airways flight while his supporters and journalists were denied access to Entebbe International Airport.

Besigye argued that the level of humiliation he was subjected to was a major indicator of political instability which is a key factor when making investment decisions.

"Can you imagine, men dressed in Civil Aviation Authority uniforms grabbed me on the stairs of the aircraft, put me in their car and drove me to the Old Airport where they handed me to Police as if I was a terrorist, this kind of behaviour attracts no investors," Besigye raged.

He said that the anxiety to welcome him back was a clear demonstration that he is the legitimate president of the people.

"Our people have withdrawn their support and cooperation from government, now the regime is busy trying to stop them from accessing me but it only makes the struggle stronger," Besigye said.

He explained that citizens are not concerned about his return but they were using him as a rallying point for their interest to have a change in government.

Besigye who lost the February election to President Yoweri Museveni left the country after court granted him bail from remand over treason cases.
