Police said seven suspects have been lynched in Amolatar since May but other sources said over 20 have been killed since the beginning of the year.

Amolatar District Police Commander (DPC), Gerald Isabirye said on phone on Monday that three juveniles were suspected of waylaying and hitting a businessman on the head on September 27 before they robbed him of unspecified amount of money and shop keys.

The three juveniles, the DPC said, ambushed Francis Aleri who was from his shop at Acengryeng trading Centre going back to his home and hit him with a club and he fell down and they left him for dead. He said Robert Ocan a sub county supervisor of Aputi came across the victim lying by the road side and called police who took him to Amai hospital. Aleri is said to be an uncle to the children.

Residents of the area heard what had happened and kept watch at Aleri's shop. The trio then went to open the shop where they got the residents ready for them. One Ambrose Omara, 17, was caught and beaten to death while two fled.

In the morning, police said residents went and searched for the duo and arrested them. Calvin Adupa and Brian Okello both said to be 16 years were beaten seriously and Adupa died while Okello, left for dead, was rescued and taken to Amolatar Health Centre IV.

Police said seven suspects have been lynched in Amolatar since May but other sources said over 20 have been killed since the beginning of the year.

The case of aggravated robbery of Aleri is reported at Acengryeng police station under CRB 86/2016 while case of murder is reported at Amolatar CPS under CRB 1780/2016 with inquiries still going on.

The Regional Police Commander (RPC) John Ematu urged parents to take care of their children. He said it's perplexing for a child of 16 years to go robbing. "The parents should sit with the children and teach them how to live, how to respect the property of others." Ematu said on phone Monday.

Ematu said parents have become irresponsible, not bothering even when their child goes for gambling.

In a similar development, another unidentified suspect was on Sunday lynched at Lumumba, Central division in Lira Municipality.

A body of unidentified person was also found dumped at roundabout on Juba road in Ojwina division.
