Minister for Urban development Isaac Musumba has called upon Ugandan architects to harmonise their work with the government development strategy to prevent collapse of buildings, especially during earthquakes.

Musumba was officiating at the annual symposium of the Uganda Society of Architects on Friday at Kabira Country Club as the society celebrates 50 years of existence.

He said, Uganda's development is heavily based on the kind of structures built, especially in urban centre hence calling upon them to begin considering the earthquake tragedy as they draw their designs.

"The recent earthquake tragedy which left some structures collapsed was an alert for us because in neighbouring Tanzania, people lost lives. So it's the President's directive that everyone gets on board as we draw preventive measures," Musumba said.
