Over 60 files have been allocated to judges but they are waiting for the Ministry of Finance to release the funds

The Judiciary has said it requires over sh1b to handle all appeals of the Parliamentary election petitions.

There are currently 118 appeals filed in court.

The Judiciary spokesperson Solomon Muyita said over 60 files have been allocated to judges but they are waiting for the Ministry of Finance to release the funds to facilitate the judges and other court staff.

"Court has been conducting scheduling conferences which are pre-appeal meetings between parties to agree on the issues to be heard by the justices" Muyita said.

They are ready to proceed but they are just waiting for logistics and funds required by the courts to hear these cases which are yet to be released by the treasury" he added.
