The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope has appealed to Basoga and their friends living in the United Kingdom (UK) to bring their savings back home and invest in the agriculture or tourism sectors.
The Kyabazinga said while addressing his subjects during the two-day Olwekobano UK Convention at the University of East London, Stratford Campus.
The Convention was organized by Busoga Yaiffe Global Association, a Basoga umbrella organization based in United Kingdom under the main theme ‘Bridging the gap between Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga viz vie The Basoga and friends of Busoga leaving in the Diaspora' and ‘rediscovering the Source of The Nile'.
He said Busoga was safe, stable and ripe for business and investment.
"I encourage you to invest back home in Busoga, in sectors like agriculture the backbone of Uganda. Put more emphasis on food zoning, embrace improved methods of farming and invest in high yielding crops," Gabula said as he was reading his speech at the convention.
He told Basoga in diaspora that Busoga was once a food basket of Uganda adding that they want to revive.
The Kyabazinga also urged those who attended the convention to invest in tourism, education and health sectors among others.
"I encourage you to lure more tourists to come to Busoga in particular and Uganda at large to tour different tourism sites in Busoga like Bishop Hannington murder site in Kyando Mayuge district, Source of the Nile in Jinja, Kagulu rocky hill in Buyende district and Itanda falls in Jinja among others," Gabula observed.
He said once the number of tourist increases, it will fetch more foreign exchange in Busoga and Uganda at large and locals who stay around the tourist sites will benefit.
The President of Busoga Yaiffe Global Association, Charles Mbalyohere appreciated Kyabazinga's visit to UK.
Mbalyohere urged Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga to set up a Kingdom radio station through which massive sensitization will be conducted like educating the community about good health practices for example keeping proper hygiene and encouraging parents to take their children for government's immunization programmes.
The four pillars that include unity, transparency, accountability and positive impact were discussed at length and the convention and the diaspora community pledged its full support to the Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga once systems are implemented.
Since unity is paramount, the diaspora community was happy that Busoga is at peace and Basoga are now more focused and are engaging in productive work.
