University League: Makerere beats Kyambogo for first time

Makerere University has beaten Kyambogo University 2-0 in the first leg of the first quarterfinal of the Nile Special University Football League.

Joshua Lubwama netted a brace with the first goal in the 23rd minute and another in added minute as Makerere clearly overwhelmed Kyambogo whose fans resorted to violence in an attempt to force the game to abort.

It was Makerere's first ever victory over Kyambogo in the competition as the previous two encounters between the sides have aborted since 2013 when the league started.

"We played according to plan and so we overpowered them but this is just the first leg. We shall have to confirm it after the return leg," Makerere University coach said as his counterpart Deo Sserwadda accused his players of refusing to train.

The competition returns with the second quarterfinal when Uganda Martyrs University hosts Uganda Christian University in Bugema on Thursday.
