Sep 16, 2016
Ofwono Opondo: The Government has not performed 100% in the first 100 days but has achieved tranquillity, maintained stable economy, given performance guidelines to different ministries among others.
The NGO forum has organized a public dialogue on assessing the first 100 days of President Yoweri Museveni since he was sworn in in May this year.
Leaders in attendance include Bishop Zac Niringiye, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, DP president Norbert Mao, FDC president Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, NRM deputy secretary general Richard Todwong, and members of the public.
Erias Lukwago: M7 has showed that he doesn't trust the elected leaders in Kampala. What the government offers to Kampala is jut peanuts that cannot transform Kampala to modern city. Museveni moves like an ATM machine. He goes distributing money.
Richard Todwong: You can now drive from one part of Uganda to another on a good tarmac road. "Our intervention in health is known by everybody"
Richard Todwong: We need to bring civil servants on board so that we tell them about our pledges to electorates and how to achieve them.
Richard Todwong: Don't expect different things it will remain NRM you have known for the last more than 30 years.
Ofwono Opondo: One of our challenges in accordance to the President is weak private sector.
Ofwono Opondo: We need a conversation that will continue until we reach on consensus on how things should be done.
Salaam Musumba: How can there be steady progress when the first 100 days are covered with bail ousts?
Muwanga Kivumbi: Do not blame Parliament as an institution. It is the president using the institution to achieve his ambitions.
Micheal Orach OsindeUPC spokesperson: Some people believe that they should eliminate Museveni, he should instead be included in our dialogues but when he comes, you find out that some are running away.
Ofwono Opondo: The Government has not performed 100% in the first 100 days but has achieved tranquillity, maintained stable economy, given performance guidelines to different ministries among others.
Bishop Zack Niringiye: There is nothing new, no new actions, ideas among others. You cannot expect the Government that came in power fraudulently to do much.
Dr. Zac Niringiye: Why are we auditing something that was a fraud? We'll pay if we do not deal with that.
DP president Norbert Mao: President Yoweri Museveni wants to wipe out opposition in the government the way it was done in Ethiopia.
Mao: The government is not responding to issues affecting Uganda like corruption, poor health conditions and instead takes time in infrastructures.
The Government is very inefficient, there is also a question of national unity, and the economy is running away from us.
FDC President Gen. Mugisha Muntu: The Government is a core of the problems we face as a country. People are not calm because they are happy, but they are desperate. The regime needs to listen more. There's a fundamental problem when peasants sell their vote at a cost as low as sh500."
