Mulago Hospital too broke to clear water bills

the facility is using water estimated at sh10million on a daily basis
Mulago National Referral Hospital has said limited funding is to blame for delays in clearing its outstanding water bills.
This follows a 7-day ultimatum issued by National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to disconnect water supply to the country's biggest hospital due to non-payment. Mulago owes NWSC sh800m
The hospital's spokesperson Enock Kusasira said out of the sh3.2bn water budget allocated annually, the facility receives only sh1.077b leaving a gap of sh2.1bn.
"In one quarter we are given sh269m but in only one month the hospital uses water valued at sh270m so what we are given in a quarter is less than what we use in a month" Kusasira said.
He added that the facility is using water estimated at sh10million on a daily basis.
He however warned that the water bills will only increase because all the bills for Kiruddu and Kawempe health facilities are to be paid by Mulago Hospital.
