The accident occurred on the Kampala-Jinja Highway

It is exactly 15 years since four sports scribes died in a car accident in Lugazi on the Kampala-Jinja Highway.

Vision Group's Kenneth Matovu, Leo Kabunga and Simon Peter Ekarot together with Monitor Publication's Francis Batte died after their car collided with a pick-up.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) is today marking a memorial service at Christ the King Church.

New Vision joins the families of the fallen journalists in remembering their relatives.

Matovu was a sub editor with the New Vision sports desk where Ekarot and Kabunga were reporters.

The accident occurred after the car driven by Matovu collided head-on with a pick-up truck near Lugazi trading centre. The two occupants in the Nissan pick-up were also killed

The journalists who were USPA executive members were returning from a meeting with Nile Breweries in Njeru.

USPA together with Standard Chartered Bank and KCCA are holding a number of road safety activities. They climax at Buwama on the Kampala-Masaka Highway on Saturday.

In 1998, two senior journalists with Monitor were killed in a car crash while taking part in a rally in north eastern Uganda
