Makerere staff halt classes over allowances

Early this month the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics Prof Barnabus Nawangwe wrote to the Teaching Staff informing them that the University Council resolved to cut their allowances by 75% effective September due to inadequate funds to run the University

Makerere University Academic Staff Association has halted the teaching of Evening and early morning classes until they sit with the University management to agree on the allowances they should be paid.

Early this month the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics Prof Barnabus Nawangwe wrote to the Teaching Staff informing them that the University Council resolved to cut their allowances by 75% effective September due to inadequate funds to run the University

The Spokesperson of MUASA Dr.Deus Muhwezi says that they are willing to negotiate with the University management to have their allowances at least cut by only 50% instead of 75% and then resume teaching during extra hours.
