It is historically okay for most African rural communities to play football barefoot and on bare grounds.

Besides that, it's even more costly for them to afford soccer boots but City Tyres marketing manager Herbert Bashasha thinks otherwise.

Bashasha confirmed that City Tyres will provide boots for every team ahead of the City Tyres, U-14 Chenga Challenge final slated for Saturday, September 10 in Moroto.

"We want to take the event to another level and this is the reason we are proving boots to the players just to make these kids get used to them at an early age," Bashasha said.

But with this development, a lot of drama and endurance is likely to be the order of the day as teams converge for the games starting on Friday.

Meanwhile City Tyres partners, Friends of Football (FoF) William Nkemba added that they intended to take the final in Moroto to try and revive hope amongst the children of Karamoja.

"It's an opportunity for the Karimojong to interact with kids from other parts of Uganda and share their knowledge and experience through these games," he said.

Nkemba added, "The pitches are bare but our target is to inform these kids that football can be played anywhere."

The 13th edition that has attracted over 4700 participants aged 14 years and below will have teams from Kampala, Mukono, Kabale, Mbale, Iganga, Arua, Lira, Fort Portal, Moroto, Mbarara and Masaka compete in the finals.
