Amuria churches facing closure for lack to toilet facilities

This poses a big threat to the hygiene and sanitation

The district councilor Apeduru Sub County in Amuria district has issued an ultimatum to churches operating without latrine facilities in the area.

This follows concern that most churches are operating without pit latrines, despite the overwhelming number of Christians flocking their churches.

According to Paul Esogu, the district councillor representing Apeduru Sub County at the district council, the lack of pit latrines is encouraging open defecation.

"This problem cuts across the district. These churches don't have facilities like toilets and these are powerful institutions where people gather and worship" he said.

This he said poses a big threat to the hygiene and sanitation of surrounding communities.

This brings about open defecation which is a terrible matter which can cause diseases like cholera. All religious leaders and Christians must make sure all churches have latrines so that we can improve sanitation" Esogu added.
