DDA gets new board after two-year lull

The board of directors is composed of 11 people who are all virtually doctors in various fields.

After a lull of more than two years, the Dairy Development Authority (DDA) has finally got a new board.

The board of directors is composed of 11 people who are all virtually doctors in various fields.

The new members were inaugurated by the state minister of agriculture, Christopher Kibazanga who tasked them to maintain the quality standards of milk production in the country in order to penetrate the international market.

"We need quality milk if we are to export to the international markets," he said.

According the DDA's executive director Dr. Jolly Zaribwende, the authority is grappling with milk traders whose unpacked milk has been banned. She said this must be addressed.

The current milk production in the country is said to be at annual 2.2 billion litres, and that Uganda exports milk worth $50m (about sh170bn) annually.

The newly appointed board members include Bernadette Katureebe (chairperson), Dr. James Niwagaba, Jehoash Sendege, Dr. Richard Okwiri and Dr. Alice Banga.

Others are Dr Stephen Kajura, Eng. John Anglin, Immaculate Kibirango, Titus Kajura, Rev Sandra Mwebaze and Dr.  Jolly Zaribwende.
