NCDs alliance welcomes appointment of ambassador

NCDs have become an important global agenda with developing countries like Uganda

The Non Communicable Disease Global Alliance has welcomed the appointment of Micheal R. Bloomberg as the first World Health Organization (WHO) Ambassador for Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Bloomberg, who was appointed last week, has been a leading voice in public health since the early eighties, with successful initiative in tobacco control, nutrition, road safety and injury prevention.

"I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Bloomberg on his appointment. We are united by a vision on a future where people affected by or living with NCDS live a full and healthy life," Jose Luis Castro, chair of NCD alliance said in a statement.

Katie Dain, NCD Alliance executive director said the adoption of the SDGs in September 2015 with a target on NCDS firmly secured NCDs as a global health and development priority for all countries.

NCDs have become an important global agenda with developing countries like Uganda projected to produce the highest burden of NCDs -driven by changes in life style an improvement in standard of living.
