Olympic marathon defending champion Stephen Kiprotich arrived in Rio de Janeiro ready to defend the title he won four years ago.

Kiprotich arrived in camp together with other marathon runners Solomon Mutai and Jackson Kiprop, who are looking at running as a team as they help ensure that Uganda retains the title they won in London four years ago.

Despite failing to defend his World Championships title in Beijing last year, Kiprotich is focused on putting up a great run come Sunday. He will visit the route on Thursday to plan for the course.

He already has the advantage that the marathon will be held on a route that has three loops, something he prefers running in rather than a straight route from start to finish.

Faustino Kiwa, the Ugandan coach in camp said that though the trio were fatigued due to the over 24 hour journey, he was confident that they will recover fast and get themselves ready for the action.

"They are having a rest now as they try to recover from their journey. They will continue with some light training and we are planning to go and inspect the route for better planning," Kiwa said.
