Over 2000 public officers in different government departments are affected
If you are on the government payroll and have not undergone the validation exercise by the public service ministry, consider your position null and void.
The government has announced a fresh clean up of the payroll in a bid to get rid of “ghosts” in the system.
In a statement seen by New Vision, the public service ministry’s human resource department stated that it had deleted all staff that were on the government payroll but had not been validated from the payroll with effect from July 16.
Sources said over 2000 public officers in different government departments are affected.
“This is to inform all contract staff who were on the payroll and whose contracts expired at the end of July 2016 and those whose contracts will expire thereafter, to report to the ministry of public service for validation,” the statement read in part.
“Please note that the staff who will not undergo the verification exercise will not be reinstated on the payroll,” the statement added.
To be verified, every individual is required to carry along a letter of introduction from their respective accounting officers, the national identity cars, appointment letter and the last pay slip.
By press time, hundreds of civil servants were seen queuing up at National Records and Archives Centre in Kampala in an attempt to have last minute verification.
The clean up exercise follows several audits that have proven that Uganda was losing billions of shillings to ghost workers.
A 2013 audit by the Auditor General John Muwanga unearthed 15,021 ghosts found on the payroll between July 2013 and August 2014.
