Mutilated body of 10-year-old girl found

Police in Butaleja district have recovered a mutilated body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing last week.

The corpse was found floating in Kaipi swamp after the area LCI chairman had reported the girl's disappearance to police.

The body was found with the private parts, breasts and tongue missing. Bukedi regional police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya said the child could have been murdered for ritual sacrifice.

She was the daughter of Bora Muzamiru, a resident of Budadir village in Naweyo sub-county.

Police said at the time of her disappearance, she was in the company of two men who are known in the area. But Kamulya declined to reveal their identities, saying disclosing who they are would jeopardize ongoing investigations.

He appealed to the public to help the police with information that may lead to arrest of the unnamed suspects who reportedly disappeared immediately after executing their mission.

Parents have also been advised to take extra care of their children and always report cases of disappearance to police.
