People should be discouraged from dealing in many products

The Minister of Trade and industry Amelia Kyambadde has said the small scale industries will operate through a new directorate.

"There exists so many products that we need to organize them. This will also involve training and it will help people who sell the products on the road side", said Kyambadde.

"People should be discouraged from dealing in many products if they are to attract market of their products" Kyambadde added.

She made the remarks during the opening of exhibition for small scale industries in Kampala on Saturday.

She said that district commercial officers have been equipped and advised the members to make use of them to improve their businesses.

"These are the people who promote services you need in the districts. We have also got more funds to boost your activities," said Kyambadde.

During the inspection of the exhibitions, she noted that people were dealing in so many products. She said what is needed is to remain in the same product so as not to have tied up capital in items which do not have market.

The Executive Director Uganda Small Scale Industries Association, Eunice Wekesa, said in the past, they concentrated on building membership. She said that currently they have representation in the whole country.
