RIO DE JANEIRO - Jacob Kiplimo is not only Uganda's youngest Olympian, but will also be the youngest athlete on the track during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, according to IAAF.

The International Association of Athletics Federations confirmed this after a technical committee meeting that confirmed all entries in Rio de Janeiro.

The world U-20 10,000m bronze medalist in Bydgoszcz, Poland last month  is the youngest male track athlete  in Rio, with Armenia's Gayane Chiloyan being the youngest female track athlete.

Kiplimo will be turning 16 this November.

One of the results of the Uganda Athletics Federation partnership with Tuscany training camp in Italy, Kiplimo has already proved his worth. He has been training with Giuseppe Giambrone, who is in Rio as one of Team Uganda's athletics coaches.

The teenage runner has improved tremendously, and despite a podium finish being a huge ask on his maiden appearance at a senior event of such magnitude, he is positive that the experience alone will be a huge boost for his ambitions.

Kiplimo's focus now is on improving his personal best time and set a base for the London 2017 World Championships.

"He is a promising runner and we are hoping for the best out of him. If he builds on his experience, then he will be able to challenge the world in the future," said Giambrone.

Kiplimo is set to team up with Police athlete Joshua Cheptegei, also a gold medal winner at the 2014 World Junior Championships, and Timothy Toroitich, as they try to challenge the world's best , including defending champion Mo Farah in the 10,000m competition.
