Gov't signs MOU with Algeria to neutralize security threats

Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Algeria-Police experts to train Ugandan officers to fight crime. In the partnership, both countries will also work together to fight terrorism and transnational crime.

The Algerian delegation, led by the Commissionaire Divisionaire De Police, Nouar Guermat, said his country had accepted to train and equip Uganda Police in several sectors that will include Very Important Persons (VIP) Protection, Information technology, Forensics services, human resources and logistics.  

 
The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura said the move is aimed at modernizing the police, a target he set after taking over office years ago.

"The focus is on how we get modern systems to detect crime," Kayihura said, before both parties signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure a bilateral cooperation for both nations at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa division.

Branding Algeria as one of the African countries with best Police management, Kayihura said Uganda had entered into a partnership to revamp the force.

The move followed Kayihura's three day visit to Algeria.
