A Ugandan baseball player could be on the road to professional baseball after securing a place in the on-going Europe Major League Baseball (MLB) try outs in Germany.

16-year-old Daniel Alio who was scouted by MLB officials in the fall of last month is in Germany for two weeks, on one of the slots allocated for African players.

Alio who hails from Lugazi and is a student at AVRS, is no stranger to international outings as he featured in the 2012 World Little League Series in Williamsport, USA where he famously scored a two run homer against Gresham Wolves.

"This is a big opportunity for the boy as he has a chance of being selected for professional baseball internationally" said Denis Kasozi the UBASA chairman.

Joseph Drotti, a coach from AVRS travelled with the player as a policy by the MLB that all minors go for international events in the company of seniors.

In the camp, players are tested on various skills such as running, batting, throwing, catching and from these academies, MLB sides can sign young players to play professionally.
