The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has rejected the cabinet proposal to retrench some civil servants, arguing it would worsen the unemployment  situation.

"In a country where 83% have no jobs, it can only be outrageous for government to go for retrenchment. Instead of creating employment, government wants to create more unemployment," said FDC deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija.

In the recent cabinet retreat which ended last week, government came up with a retrenchment proposal as one the reforms to reduce the cost of public administration and save resources for the production oriented sectors.

Kaija advised government to reduce the budget of State House, Office of the President and the classified expenditure in the defence ministry.

"In the last financial year, the budget for State House and office of the President was more than sh400b. The money for classified expenditures was over sh600b. That is where should start from," Kaija argued.

On last week's incident of President Museveni firing health workers of Nakawuka Health Center over alleged negligence, Kaija said sacking poorly facilitated worker will not any problem.
