Gov't to pay arrears for striking varsity staff

The minister was addressing non-teaching university staff at a meeting convened by the Education and sports minister, Janet Museveni in Kampala.

Government has agreed to pay salary arrears for the striking non-teaching staff in public universities.

Finance minister, Matia Kasaija, said on Monday that: "salary arrears of non-teaching varsity staff will be paid from a supplementary budget in second quarter of this financial year 2016/17."

The minister was addressing non-teaching university staff at a meeting convened by the Education and sports minister, Janet Museveni in Kampala.

Mrs Museveni was flanked by the education state ministers Dr. JC Muyingo (higher education) and RoseMary Sseninde (primary education).

The First Lady vowed to find a ‘lasting solution' for the non-teaching public university staff saying she has been minister in the portfolio for only 2 months.
