Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said police mounted a search for the vehicle immediately after the embassy filed the case.

Police have recovered a vehicle stolen recently from the embassy of the Republic of South Korea to Uganda.

The vehicle registration number CD 20 11U, a Land Cruiser Prado TX was reportedly stolen from the Embassy's parking yard at Kololo on July 27 after the robbers allegedly applied chloroform to the driver, Hassan Wesley Opiyo.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said police mounted a search for the vehicle immediately after the embassy filed the case.

"Following our internal security investigators, we mounted road blocks and alerted all our Police Stations and Posts along the roads which we know are commonly used by these car robbers while taking them out of the country," Onyango said.

According to Onyango, the vehicle was first seen along Karuma-Kafu Road on July 29, and Police started monitoring it until it was intercepted on August 1 at a place called Alaka in Nwoya District.

Onyango said, the two robbers managed to escape during the interception at Alaka trading center but the driver of the vehicle Opiyo is being held at Jinja Road Police station as Police hunt for the main culprits.

One Police investigator at Jinja Road said, Opiyo failed to explain the circumstances in which he claims to have been chloroformed by the car robbers.

Onyango said Opiyo and other still at large are to be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. For some time, Interpol has reported instances of vehicles stolen and exported to countries like DR Congo and South Sudan.

According to local police, DR Congo is the most go-to destination for car thefts from Uganda. According to Police, about 500 vehicles have been stolen from Uganda and taken to DR Congo.
