President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday received President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for a one-day visit.

Museveni received his visiting counterpart at the Uganda-DRC border post of Mpondwe in Kasese district, in Western Uganda.

The DRC leader crossed the bridge linking the two countries at 12:53 p.m. and later inspected a guard of honour mounted by Officers and men of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).

During the receiving ceremony, wananchi on both sides of the border cheered fervently in excitement.

As President Museveni and his visitor withdrew from the border post, the 2 leaders greeted a crowd of wananchi who turned up to receive them. Some of the people stood on roofs and balconies of storied buildings to salute them.

Earlier, President Museveni greeted the people who turned up to greet him in Bwera and Mpondwe as he travelled to the border to receive his guest. He thanked the children for their commitment to studies and thanked adults for their hard work.

The two leaders later proceeded to Mweya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park for a meeting.
