Accident kills 9 in Oyam district

Nine people have been confirmed dead, while seven other sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in, got into an accident in Wee Abam village, Kamdini Sub County in Oyam district along Kamdini -Lira Road.

The Oyam District Police Commander [DPC] Nazibu Waiswa said the accident occurred at around midday on Wednesday, when a trailer with registration UAZ 579 C collided with a pickup truck with registration number registration UAT 374 V.

He said seven people died on the spot, while two other people died from Saint John hospital Aber in Oyam district where they had been taken for treatment. 

The bodies were taken to the mortuary in Anyeke health centre IV, Oyam district.

According to the DPC the pickup truck with registration number UAT 374 V traveling from Kamdini while the trailer with registration number UAZ 579 C was travelling from Lira to Kamdini.

He identified the people who died as Geoffrey Onono 32 a driver also the owner of the vehicle, Shara Adongo 36, a business Woman, Florence Oluge 34 a business woman, Alice Koc 52 ,Simple Apio 68, Grace Opude  48 and Rose Akello 47  died after arriving in the hospital, They were all residents of Barlongo B village in Wiraa parish Aber sub county Oyam district
