Uganda's Edrine Okong debut against the world's best in the Junior Open Championship in Scotland early this month did not produce the results the country can be proud of, but his journey together with Uganda Golf Union Development and Competitions representative Oscar Semawere paid; off-course.

Following their travel, the two returned to the country with 5 new Taylor made R15 golf sets on behalf of Uganda Golf Union from the Assistant Director of Golf Development Royal & Ancient Club, Duncan Weir for the junior team.

The clubs have already been given to  Edrine Okong of Mehta Golf Club, Herman Mutebi of Entebbe Club and David Kamulindwa and Dennis Asaba of Toro Club. The remaining clubs will be given to a promising youngster.

Semawere believes the acquisition of these clubs by the youngsters is going to improve not only their game and  self-esteem on the course, but also ease the national team coach's work as he imparts more skills and swing drills.

The R&A has continued to be a major junior golf development partner for Uganda and recently offered Ronald Otile a three-year scholarship through Turks Academy at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
