Muslims hold special prayers for Kabaka

The prayers, which were led by the Imam of Gaddafi Mosque, Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza, were held on Friday shortly after Jummah (congregational) prayer.

Muslims at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala have held special prayers for the Kabaka of Buganda's 23rd coronation anniversary celebrations.

The prayers, which were led by the Imam of Gaddafi Mosque, Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza, were held on Friday shortly after Jummah (congregational) prayer.

Every year, Buganda kingdom holds anniversary celebrations, drawing thousands of people. This year's main celebrations will be held in Butambala.

 
The statement issued by UMSC spokesperson, Hajji Nsereko Mutumba, on Friday said before the prayers, the Kingdom's finance minister, Robert Nsibirwa, delivered a special message from the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

The Katikkiro said Buganda as a Kingdom decided to thank Allah (God) for protecting the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and keeping him on the throne for 23 years.

"We pray to Allah to give our Kakaba many more years on the throne and to protect him because his subjects derive happiness from his wellbeing," Mayiga prayed.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubaje, who is in Kenyan capital Nairobi attending a meeting of African council of religious leaders, was represented by his deputy Sheikh Khatwib Mukuluwakika.

Mukuluwakika commended Mengo leadership for recognising the Greatness of Allah.

"I commend the Kabaka's government for recogniSing the fact that the Kingdom's wellbeing depends on Allah," he said.

He urged Muslims to continuously pray for the Kabaka so that Allah can give him more wisdom and a long life on the throne.
