Busoga Bishop cautions against domestic violence

The Busoga Diocesan Bishop, the Rev. Paul Naimanhye has cautioned men against domestic violence.

Much as there are ups and downs in marriages, he said fighting and harassing women and their children is not the solution.

"Much as there are ups and downs, the foundation of marriage should not be built by harassing and fighting. Therefore, husbands are heads of families and should be exemplary," he said.

He was officiating at St. Peter's Day celebrations for the father's union in Busoga Diocese at Bugembe Stadium in Jinja district on Sunday.

He observed that happiness, love and care were very rare in most homes because of domestic violence.

Naimanhye said under such circumstances, parents can't bring up children who are morally upright.

"Don't expect children from such homes characterized with domestic violence to also be good wives and husbands in future," the bishop said.

He lashed out at some men in the father's union with what he described as childish characters of cheating on their wives especially after tying the knot.

As Naimanhye emphasized the said point, one of the clergy's wives rushed and handed him money to the surprise of clergies.

The mothers cheered as Naimanhye took on men who don't love their wives for allegedly being short and ugly.

"Your wife is your wife, if you were trapped before noticing that they were not your choices just accept and die like officers because there is no good or beautiful woman" he said.

Meanwhile Edward Kasuti, the president of father's union excited the congregation after he revealed that they had secured a plan for the construction of a recreation centre for the organisation as an income generating project.

A total of sh3.2m was raised in cash and pledges towards the commencement of the project.

During the event, the Bishop ushered in 8 couples that were wedded by the assistant Vicar of Christ's Cathedral, Bugembe, the Rev. Joy Isabirye.

Naimanhye also issued certificates to couples that had been together for 50 and 25 years in marriage saying this was aimed at attracting others to keep their vows till death.
