"We have a long journey to go in terms of preparing for Kampala."

ENTEBBE - Over 300 city leaders are meeting in Entebbe to deliberate on issues of managing Kampala.

Minister for KCCA Beti Olive Kamya is attending the meeting which is taking place at Entebbe Imperial Resort Beach Hotel to discuss a way forward for the city.

"We have a long journey to go in terms of preparing for Kampala. So we are going to deliberate on several issues," Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago had said earlier.

A number of MPs and ministers are taking part in the discussions.

Kyambogo councilor Bruhan Byaruhanga said they are supposed to train so as to understand how authority meetings are supposed to be handled.

The three-day residential meeting, according to KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju, is meant to train new councilors.

A number of resource persons from the National Planning Authority and the ministry of local government are training the councilors.

Ideas are being exchanged during the orientation and city leaders are being taken through the rules of procedures that they use during their council meetings.

According to a source at City Hall, they had last held such an orientation meeting in 2011 when councilors were elected into power.

The councilors will be handled at different levels. KCCA councilors will meet for two days, while division councilors and their mayors will be handled on different days.
