A Kenyan pistol recovered by the police in Busia district has been handed over to Kenyan authorities.

The Busia district police commander Nelson Nahabwe handed over the pistol to a team of Kenyan security officials led by Bernard Kiyoko the officer in charge police division Busia, Kenya County.

Nahabwe said the pistol was recovered last year at Busitema junction leading to the arrest of the suspect identified as Peter Karanja.

He said the suspect was on board a Kenyan bus and was headed to Kampala at the time the pistol was recovered.

Nahabwe said Karanja was charged through Interpol and handed over to Kenyan Police.

This is the second weapon to be handed to over to Kenyan Police this year.

"Early this year we recovered a Kenyan registered gun in a pit latrine in Marachi village in Busia town," Nahabwe said.

Kiyoko said Karanja was illegally holding the fire arm because it license had the recovered expired. He said Karanja would be charged for illegally processing the pistol.

He thanked the Ugandan Police for fully cooperating with their Kenyan counterparts to fight border crime.

Kiyoko said the networking between the agencies had greatly improved security at the border and appealed to the border residents to provide Police with information to enable them fight crime.
