Arua hospital x-ray section closed over safety concerns

Jul 16, 2016

A closure notice was issued last month by AEC-Uganda

Patients seeking x-ray services at Arua Regional Referral Hospital will have to dig deep into their pockets to access the services from private clinics.

This follows the closure of the x-ray section by the Uganda Atomic Energy Council (AEC) of Uganda.

AEC-Uganda officials closed the section for operating in disregard of safety precautions hence affecting operations of the scan and radiography units.

The Uganda Atomic Energy Council is a government body mandated to regulate the peaceful application of ionizing radiation and to provide for compliance with international safety requirements.

A closure notice issued on last month by AEC-Uganda indicates that the hospital workers in the unit were not monitored and lack the requisite protective gear.

Arua Regional Referral Hospital Director Dr Bernard Odu in a letter dated 17th June gave a grace period of ten days to the hospital senior radiographer to fix the issues.
