Uganda's team to the Rio 2016 Olympics

Abraham Kiplimo, Robert Chemonges, Alex Chesakit and Moses Kipsiro are the four who missed out.

Kiprotich won a gold medal for Uganda in the marathon at London Olympics in 2012

Stephen Kiprotich will have strong support in his quest to reclaim the Olympic marathon title.

He will be backed by World Championship bronze medalist Solomon Munyo Mutai and 2013 Mumbai marathon champion Jackson Kiprop.

The trio emerged top in a Uganda Athletics Federation selection covering seven runners who had all hit the Rio marathon mark.

Abraham Kiplimo, Robert Chemonges, Alex Chesakit and Moses Kipsiro are the four who missed out.

Also left out was London Olympics team member Thomas Ayeko. Ayeko made a last ditch qualification in the national championship but was edged out.

Joshua Cheptegei, Moses Kurong and Timothy Toroitich had faster times than Ayeko in the 10000 meters.

Meanwhile swimmers Jamila Lunkuse and Joshua Ekirikubinza have also joined Uganda's team for the Rio Olympics.

Lunkuse will be making her second appearance at the prestigious quadrennial games, having represented Uganda in London in 2012.

(Steeplechase) Jacob Araptany, Phillip Kipyeko (5000m) and Joshua Cheptegei, Benjamin Kiplagat, Jacob Kiplimo, (1500) Ronald Musagala (1500m)

Women: (800m) Halima Nakaayi and Winnie Nanyondo, (3000 SC) Peruth Chemutai, (5000m& 10000) Juliet Chekwel, marathon- Adero Nyakisi.
(Boxing) flyweight Ronald Serugo and light heavyweight Kennedy Katende.
