Bunyoro starts preps for new bishop consecration

'You are cordially invited to the ecumenical service and official launch of the consecration meetings.'

Bunyoro Kitara diocese has kicked off preparations for the consecration and installation of the new bishop-elect Samuel Kahuma Abwooli.

According to the outgoing bishop, Nathan Kyamanywa, who is currently out of the country, the diocese has set up two committees - one in Hoima and another in Kampala - to organize the consecration and installation of the new bishop.

The committees, he explained, will be unveiled to the people during the ecumenical service at Matildaz gardens in Kampala on July 24.

Kahuma, who was elected last month, will be consecrated and installed on December 4 at St. Peter's Cathedral in Hoima.

Kyamanywa, who turns 60 on December 14 this year, chose to retire five years before clocking the mandatory retirement age because he felt he had achieved the targets for which he was appointed bishop in 2002.

Anglican bishops retire at age of 65 years. The new bishop-elect has been Bunyoro Kitara diocesan secretary.

Kyamanywa, who says he started serving the church at 19 years of age, will turn 41 years in the God's ministry in December.

"You are cordially invited to the ecumenical service and official launch of the consecration meetings for bishop-elect Samuel Kahuma Abwooli as the new bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese on Sunday, 24th July, 2016 at Matildaz Gardens opposite shell petrol station, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kampala starting at 10:00 O'clock," reads a statement from St. Peter's Cathedral.

The new bishop-elect will also be unveiled to the congregation during the service.
